With profound sadness, we remember 60-year-old Curtis Vernon Okelberry of West Bountiful, Utah, a truck driver whose life was tragically taken following a devastating rollover crash on Interstate 80 in Elko County, Nevada.
Curtis was traveling eastbound in a 2016 Freightliner when, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the semi experienced a left front steer tire blowout near mile marker 378, between Wells and Wendover. In a heartbreaking chain of events, the truck veered from the roadway, crossed the center median, and overturned across both westbound lanes.
Curtis suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His passing is more than a tragic headline—it is the loss of a human being whose life, memories, kindness, and presence meant something deeply to the people who knew and loved him. Behind every mile he traveled was a life filled with moments that can never be replaced and memories that will forever remain.
A westbound passenger vehicle was struck by debris from the crash, though thankfully no injuries were reported among those occupants. The westbound lanes remained closed for several hours as authorities worked through the difficult aftermath.
