A Life Taken, A Memory That Will Remain.

With hearts heavy beyond words, we remember Bruce Gress, 42, of Toms River, whose life was tragically taken Friday morning, while Douglas Cobb, 51, of Toms River, has been charged with murder in connection with his death. As Cobb remains at large and authorities continue their search, a family and a community are left facing the unbearable emptiness created by a life suddenly taken away.

Bruce was found after the devastating shooting at the Wawa near Route 37 and Garfield Avenue. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Some losses arrive so suddenly that the heart struggles to understand them. One moment, there is a person, a voice, a presence, and a future filled with possibilities. Then, in an instant, everything changes. The world continues moving, yet for those who loved Bruce, time may forever feel divided into before and after.

A person is never truly measured by the circumstances of their final moments. Bruce was more than the tragedy that brought his name into the headlines. He was a human being whose life carried meaning, whose presence touched others, and whose memories will now become priceless pieces of the past.

For those grieving, may the memories of Bruce become a gentle place to return when the pain feels overwhelming. May every remembered smile bring warmth, every cherished moment bring comfort, and every story about him keep his name alive.

As the investigation continues, may truth and justice guide the path forward.

Today, we simply remember Bruce Gress.

May he rest peacefully, surrounded forever by the love and memories he leaves behind. 🕊️

Gone from sight, but never from memory. Never forgotten.
