The Yorkville community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 23-year-old Victor M. Hernandez Medina of Sandwich, Illinois, who died following a devastating incident in a Yorkville parking lot Sunday evening.
According to police, Victor and another adult had arranged to meet someone in a parking lot in the 300 block of East Veterans Parkway. Shortly before 5:15 p.m., authorities say the driver of a vehicle intentionally struck the two pedestrians before fleeing the scene.
Officers arrived to find both victims suffering significant injuries. They were rushed to an area hospital, where Victor was later pronounced dead. The second victim survived with injuries described by authorities as non-life-threatening.
A vehicle matching the description of the one involved was later located in Oswego, and police said the suspect was taken into custody. Investigators were continuing to collect and process evidence, with assistance from the Kendall County Major Crimes Task Force and Illinois State Police. As of Monday morning, police said no charges had been filed.
