A heartbreaking tragedy has left a community mourning after 61-year-old Sharon Bukulmez of Mount Desert and her two young grandchildren, 5-year-old Kinsley Grubb and 3-year-old Sawyer Grubb of Bar Harbor, were found deceased inside a submerged vehicle in Pond Cove in Roque Bluffs, Maine.
According to Maine State Police, Sharon was last seen around 8:30 p.m. Saturday after leaving a family gathering in Jonesboro with Kinsley and Sawyer. The three were traveling toward Machias when their journey ended in circumstances that remain under investigation.
Authorities worked through the night to locate them. Cellphone information eventually led investigators to the waters near the boat ramp at the end of Schoppee Point Road. Around 7 a.m. Sunday, members of the Maine Marine Patrol and Maine State Police Dive Team located the vehicle beneath the water.
The recovery brought a devastating end to a desperate search. Sharon and her two grandchildren were recovered from the submerged vehicle and transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta. Autopsies are expected to help determine the cause and manner of death.
