In the early hours of Sunday, September 20, 2026, a heartbreaking tragedy on Interstate 20 in St. Clair County, Alabama, claimed the life of Jose Daniel Hernandez Reyes, 21, of Lithia Springs, Georgia.
Jose was one of two people who had been involved in an earlier crash and had stepped from their vehicle onto the roadway. Around 12:02 a.m., tragedy struck when a 2025 Toyota Camry collided with him near the 152-mile marker within the Cook Springs area. Despite the efforts at the scene, Jose was pronounced deceased.
Another pedestrian, Jennisfer Vanessa Vasquez, 22, also of Lithia Springs, was injured in the devastating sequence of events and was transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment.
Tonight, we remember Jose not for the tragedy that took him from this world, but for the life he lived, the memories he created, and the people whose hearts will forever carry his name. At just 21 years old, there were still dreams waiting to unfold, mornings waiting to come, and countless memories yet to be made.
