A LIGHT THAT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
Some people enter our lives and leave behind memories. Others leave behind a legacy so powerful that their presence continues to live in the hearts of those they touched. Today, we remember Dwayne Antonio Harvey, 59, of Detroit — lovingly known to many as “Teach Harvey.”
Dwayne was more than a teacher. He was an educator, mentor, role model, and a guiding light to countless young people at Oak Park High School. Through his dedication, patience, encouragement, and compassion, he helped students learn, grow, and believe in themselves.
On September 17, 2026, the community suffered a heartbreaking loss when Dwayne was killed in a fatal crash at Eight Mile Road and Coolidge Highway. At the time, he was working evenings as an Uber driver.
For those who knew him as Teach Harvey, his name will forever carry memories of lessons that reached far beyond the classroom. The greatest lessons are sometimes not written on a chalkboard—they are taught through kindness, character, perseverance, and the way a person makes others feel valued.
Today, we mourn a life that ended far too soon, but we also celebrate a life that mattered deeply. His students, colleagues, friends, family, and everyone fortunate enough to cross paths with him will carry pieces of his legacy forward.
May every lesson he taught continue to echo. May every life he touched become part of his lasting story. And may his family find comfort in knowing that Teach Harvey was loved, respected, and remembered.
