Nicholas Peters and John “Jack” Ervin, Gone but Never Forgotten.
The skies above Alaska became the setting for a heartbreaking tragedy as two lives were suddenly and tragically lost in a plane crash near Aniak. Nicholas Peters, 34, of Eagle River, Alaska, and John “Jack” Ervin, 50, of Missouri, were aboard a Cessna 185 that crashed after taking off from a moose camp near Aniak on Tuesday.
According to Alaska State Troopers, difficult weather conditions prevented authorities from immediately reaching the remote crash site. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, with an investigator traveling to Bethel before continuing to the site when weather conditions allow.
For those who knew Nicholas, this loss reaches far beyond the headlines. Nick was the owner and pilot of Nick’s Air Service, an air taxi business based at Birchwood Airport in Chugiak. The Alaska Outdoor Council remembered him as a longtime friend and supporter, expressing deep sorrow over his passing and extending heartfelt condolences to everyone who knew and loved him.
Today, we remember Nicholas and John not simply as names connected to a tragic accident, but as two human beings whose lives mattered and whose absence will leave an emptiness that words cannot fully describe.
