With solemn reflection, we remember the circumstances surrounding the death of 45-year-old Ryan Grey Hunter of Asheboro, North Carolina, who was found dead along a trail at Salem Lake in Winston-Salem over the weekend. On Saturday, police responded after a concerned citizen reported discovering him, bringing an unexpected and tragic end to a life surrounded by serious legal allegations.
Authorities later confirmed that Hunter had been wanted by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. A lookout notice had been issued just one day before his body was discovered. Court documents indicate that he faced multiple serious felony charges involving alleged crimes against a child, with reported offense dates ranging from 2014 through 2025. The allegations included indecent liberties with a child, incest, first-degree forcible rape, a first-degree statutory sex offense involving a child under 13, and felony child abuse.
According to an arrest warrant, Hunter was also accused of depriving a 17-year-old family member of food, shelter, and physical care, allegedly resulting in emotional injury. These remain allegations documented in court records, and his death means the case will not proceed against him in the ordinary way.
