Two Lives Lost in a Heartbreaking Head-On Collision on I-95.
Some nights leave behind a sorrow that words can never fully explain, and some tragedies remind us just how fragile and precious life truly is. On Monday night, Interstate 95 in Maine became the scene of a devastating collision that claimed the lives of 20-year-old Luis Mendoza of Indian Township and 67-year-old Sandra Lacombe of Medway, leaving behind a heartbreaking reminder of how suddenly life can change.
According to police, the tragedy began around 9:10 p.m. when a 2011 Toyota Camry was stolen from the Hannaford parking lot in Houlton. Minutes later, reports emerged of the vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on I-95. Despite an officer’s attempt to stop the speeding car, it continued into a construction zone on a bridge in Medway, where northbound and southbound traffic shared the roadway. There, the stolen vehicle collided head-on with Sandra’s vehicle. Both drivers tragically lost their lives.
Luis was only 20, with so much of life’s journey still ahead of him. Sandra, at 67, had traveled through many seasons of life. Though their stories and journeys were different, their lives ended in the same heartbreaking moment.
Their deaths leave behind a silence that feels unbearably heavy and questions that may never find comforting answers. Behind every name is a human life, a story, and a place in a world that will never be quite the same.
