On September 12, 2026, a heartbreaking tragedy unfolded on Highway 30 in Clatsop County, Oregon, forever changing the lives of many and leaving behind a sorrow that words can hardly express. Markham Marshall Stangland, 65, of Warrenton, lost his life in a devastating four-vehicle crash near milepost 85.
Markham’s life came to a sudden end that evening, leaving behind memories that will now be treasured more deeply than ever. Though the circumstances of the crash are still under investigation, the loss of a human life is something that cannot be measured in reports, statistics, or words.
The collision also injured numerous people, including Oregon National Guard members returning from a training event at Camp Rilea. Thirteen service members were transported to a nearby hospital, with three remaining hospitalized. Another driver sustained minor injuries. Behind every name and every number is a person with a life, loved ones, memories, and people waiting for them to come home.
