Words can never truly express the heartbreak left behind by the sudden passing of Johnathine Gunn, a 19-year-old Sioux Falls resident whose life was tragically taken far too soon. At an age when there should have been countless more memories to make, dreams to chase, and beautiful chapters still waiting to be written, Johnathine’s journey came to an unexpected end.
In the early morning hours of September 20, 2026, shortly before 3:00 a.m., emergency crews responded to a devastating single-vehicle crash near West 12th Street and South Grange Avenue in Sioux Falls. Authorities determined that a 2013 Mazda 3 had been traveling eastbound when it left the roadway while attempting to navigate a curve. The vehicle rolled and struck a concrete structure. Johnathine, the sole occupant, was taken to a nearby hospital, but despite the efforts of medical professionals, he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation, with excessive speed considered a possible factor. Authorities have not determined whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
