On October 3, 2026, tragedy struck Severna Park, Maryland, when 54-year-old Steven Joseph Reynolds of Severna Park was struck by an SUV while he was walking in the crosswalk on northbound Ritchie Highway at Magothy Bridge Road. The devastating hit-and-run crash occurred at approximately 10:25 p.m., and although Steven was rushed to a local trauma center for treatment, his injuries proved fatal. A life that should have continued through countless ordinary moments was suddenly and heartbreakingly taken away.
According to investigators, the vehicle believed to be involved was a dark Santorini Black SUV, possibly a Land Rover L 462. After striking Steven, the vehicle continued north on Ritchie Highway, turned into the Magothy Shopping Center, and later returned to the highway. Investigators believe the vehicle may have sustained damage to its right headlight and right front fender, with the passenger-side mirror and front wheel-well trim possibly missing.
In the aftermath of this heartbreaking incident, the investigation continued as authorities worked to identify the vehicle and the person behind the wheel. The suspect has since been identified as 56-year-old Michael Garner Hilliard of Severna Park, who is currently being held without bail.
But beyond the investigation and the unanswered questions, there remains something far more important: a life was lost.
