A Tragic Loss in Del Cerro.
A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in a Del Cerro apartment on College Avenue in San Diego, California, where 47-year-old Christina Ann Haley was found dead during a police welfare check, followed by the discovery of 40-year-old Paul Cervantes Martinez, who police say died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to investigators, Martinez allegedly killed Haley, whom authorities identified as his girlfriend, before barricading himself inside the apartment.
The devastating discovery came after a concerned relative contacted police because a family member had stopped answering calls and had failed to appear for a scheduled work shift. When officers arrived at the apartment in the 5700 block of College Avenue, they briefly spoke with a man believed to be Martinez through the door. He reportedly assured officers that everything was fine and refused to let them inside.
Concerned by the circumstances, officers gathered additional information before forcing entry into the apartment. Inside, they discovered Christina Haley, whose life had already been tragically taken. The investigation then became a tense standoff as officers believed an armed person could still be inside.
For hours, police negotiators and members of the Special Response Team attempted to establish contact with the person behind a closed bedroom door. Eventually, officers entered the room and discovered Martinez deceased.
Behind the police reports and heartbreaking circumstances are two lives that ended in tragedy, leaving behind memories that will forever remain with those who knew them. Christina Haley deserved the opportunity to continue writing the story of her life, while the circumstances surrounding Martinez’s death brought another profound and painful ending.
May Christina Ann Haley be remembered for the life she lived, the moments she shared, and the memories she left behind. May those grieving this devastating loss find strength in the days ahead.
Rest peacefully, Christina Ann Haley. May your memory never fade.
