Gone Too Soon, Remembered Beyond a Lifetime.
Some losses leave a sadness that words cannot capture, and some goodbyes arrive before anyone has the chance to prepare. Today, we remember Brian Sumerlin, 50, of Ayden, North Carolina, whose life was tragically taken in a devastating head-on collision on Saturday morning in Pitt County.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred around 9 a.m. on Stokestown-St. Johns Road, just north of N.C. 102. Brian was driving a 2015 Chevrolet pickup northbound when a southbound 2026 Lincoln pickup, driven by 32-year-old Myles Evans of Wilson, crossed the centerline and struck his vehicle head-on. Tragically, Brian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a single, heartbreaking moment, an ordinary morning became the beginning of a sorrowful chapter that no one could have imagined. A life that still held the promise of tomorrow was suddenly lost, leaving behind memories that will forever carry a mixture of love, sadness, and longing.
At 50 years old, Brian’s journey ended far too soon. His passing serves as a painful reminder that life is delicate, time is precious, and the moments we share with others are gifts we should never take for granted. When a life ends unexpectedly, the world may continue moving, but the emptiness left behind can never be measured by time alone.
The other driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to ECU Health in Greenville. Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and that charges are pending.
As Brian is remembered, may his name be spoken with kindness, his life honored with compassion, and his memory preserved in the hearts of those who knew him.
Rest peacefully, Brian Sumerlin. 🕊️ Though your life ended far too soon, may your memory remain a lasting reminder of a life that deserves to be remembered with dignity, love, and heartfelt respect.
