HEARTFELT FAREWELL IN THE HUALAPAI MOUNTAINS.
The beauty of the Hualapai Mountains became the setting of a heartbreaking tragedy on Friday afternoon, October 23, 2026, when John Emory Shuttz, 75, of Kingman, Arizona, lost his life after the utility terrain vehicle (UTV) he was traveling in plunged approximately 200 feet down a steep mountainside.
According to the Mohave County Sheriffโs Office, emergency responders, Search and Rescue personnel, and Mohave Park Rangers rushed to the scene around 2 p.m. after receiving reports of the devastating accident. John was traveling with a group of UTVs along a narrow, rocky trail from Soap Canyon toward Hualapai Mountain County Park when his vehicle reportedly left the trail and rolled down a steep ravine.
The rugged terrain made the rescue operation especially challenging, requiring specialized technical rope systems to reach the wreckage. Tragically, John was found deceased, and his body was recovered and transported to the command post before being transferred to the Mohave County Medical Examinerโs Office.
๐ At 75, Johnโs journey through this world came to a heartbreaking end, leaving behind a silence that words can never truly fill. His passing is a solemn reminder that life is fragile and that even an ordinary afternoon can change everything in an instant.
Though the mountains witnessed his final journey, his life deserves to be remembered beyond the circumstances of his passing. Every life leaves an imprint, and every goodbye carries a weight that cannot easily be measured.
๐ฏ๏ธ May John Emory Shuttz rest peacefully, and may his family, friends, and loved ones find strength and comfort as they navigate this painful loss. May his memory remain a light in their darkest moments.
Rest in peace, John. You will be remembered. ๐๏ธ
