With profound sadness, the family of Walter Lauridsen II, 42, of Des Moines, Iowa, is mourning an unimaginable loss after he tragically died Thursday night, October 15, 2026, in a crash near Chariton in Lucas County, Iowa. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Walter had exited his vehicle and was in the roadway when he was struck by another vehicle. He tragically died at the scene, leaving loved ones to face a heartbreaking reality that words can scarcely express.

Walter was more than a name in a tragic headline. He was a brother, a brother-in-law, a businessman, a philanthropist, and a person whose life was connected to the lives of many others. As the brother of Christine Sand and brother-in-law of Iowa gubernatorial candidate Rob Sand, his passing has brought sorrow to the Lauridsen and Sand families and everyone who knew and cared for him.

Rest peacefully, Walter Lauridsen II. Gone too soon, remembered with love, and never forgotten. 🕊️💐🕯️
