The city of Birmingham, Alabama, is mourning another heartbreaking loss following the tragic death of 35-year-old Ralen Jerean McCurdy, who was fatally shot during the early morning hours of November 4, 2026. His life came to a devastating end inside a residence in the 4300 block of 12th Court North, leaving behind a story that will forever be marked by an untimely goodbye.

Shortly after 1:40 a.m., South Precinct officers responded to the area following a Shot Spotter notification and reports of an injured individual. Upon arriving, officers discovered McCurdy unresponsive inside the residence. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him dead at approximately 2:04 a.m.

Behind the heartbreaking headlines was a human life, a person whose time on this earth mattered and whose passing deserves to be remembered with dignity and compassion. Thirty-five years is far too young for a life to be taken, and the suddenness of such a tragedy makes the loss even more difficult to comprehend.

As loved ones and those who knew him face the pain of this unexpected loss, may they find strength in the memories they shared and comfort in knowing that a life, however short, can leave an everlasting mark.

Authorities say detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting. No arrests have been announced.

May Ralen Jerean McCurdy rest peacefully, and may his memory live on beyond the sorrow of this tragic day.
