The Traverse City Central High School community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of 17-year-old senior student-athlete Jason Soloman, who died Saturday morning following a devastating car crash on Center Road on Michigan’s Old Mission Peninsula. At approximately 8 a.m., the vehicle Jason was riding in as a passenger left the roadway and struck a tree. Jason was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Center Road remained closed for nearly six hours as authorities investigated the tragic collision.

Jason’s passing has left a painful silence across a school community that knew him not simply as a student, but as a young athlete whose presence had become part of the fabric of Traverse City Central. As a senior member of the varsity football team, Jason proudly wore jersey #54, a number that now carries a meaning far beyond the football field.

On Sunday evening, students, families and members of the community gathered outside Traverse City Central High School to remember Jason and stand together during an unimaginable moment of grief. Hugs were shared, memories were spoken, and heartfelt messages were written for his family. In moments like these, words often feel too small to describe the weight of a life lost far too soon.

The football program shared its sorrow publicly, remembering Jason’s impact on his teammates and coaches and promising that his memory would remain a part of the team. The next game, scheduled for Friday, October 9, at 7 p.m. at Bay City Western, will be played in his honor.

Authorities continue investigating the crash, with deputies reporting that speed and alcohol are suspected factors.

Jason Soloman’s life was only beginning to unfold, yet the memories he leaves behind will continue through every teammate who remembers #54, every friend who carries his name, and every person who gathered to say goodbye.

Some lives may be brief, but their impact can last forever.

Rest peacefully, Jason Soloman. Your #54 will never be forgotten. 🕊️💔
