Some tragedies leave behind a silence so painful that even the most heartfelt words struggle to bring comfort. On October 24, 2026, Caryn J. Coon, 22, of Forked River, New Jersey, and Lauren J. Maturo, 32, of Syosset, New York, tragically lost their lives in a devastating crash on the northbound Garden State Parkway at milepost 87 in Toms River Township, Ocean County, New Jersey.

At approximately 9:42 p.m., New Jersey State Police responded to the heartbreaking collision. Preliminary findings indicate that a Genesis passenger vehicle had become disabled in the center lane, with a Freightliner tractor-trailer stopped behind it. Caryn was traveling north in a Honda when her vehicle struck the rear of the truck before leaving the roadway and descending a grass embankment. Moments later, a Ford SUV driven by Amanda K. McHenry, 32, of New York City, struck the rear of the Freightliner. Lauren was seated in the front passenger seat. Tragically, both Caryn and Lauren sustained fatal injuries. Amanda suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The truck driver sustained minor injuries, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Behind these devastating details are two women whose lives held meaning, promise, and memories that cannot simply disappear with their passing. Caryn was only 22, an age when so many dreams are still waiting to unfold. Lauren, at 32, had a life and a future that deserved more time.

For their loved ones, the pain of this loss may be difficult to put into words. Their absence will be felt in familiar places, cherished memories, and moments when their presence is desperately wished for.

May Caryn and Lauren be remembered not only for the heartbreaking circumstances of their passing, but for the lives they lived and the love they leave behind.

Rest peacefully, Caryn and Lauren. Your lives ended too soon, but your memories will forever remain. 🕊️💐
